Off-Broadway
You were in New York City visiting your cousins and decided to treat yourself for an off-Broadway show at a local theater. It was for a one-man-show where he tells you his life story, hopes, and dreams while periodically playing the piano in a moody, jazzy way. You thought it would be something interesting so you got your tickets for Friday night. You were already going to be alone that night because your cousins had other obligations that they couldn't get out of. You were fine with it. You wanted to have some time to yourself anyway. When the day arrived, you took the subway and got off at the station closest to the theater. As you walked a couple blocks to where the theater was located, you admired the various shops and cafes along the way. You also observed a tavern that had stairs going down below street level. It looked like a fun place. You finally arrived, and after showing the usher your ticket, he guided you to your seat. Shortly, the show began. You were mesmerized by him. He was eloquent with his words, so poetic and the piano melodies were soothing. He was humorously witty and full of emotion.
When the show ended, he stood up and graciously bowed before the audience as they were giving him a standing ovation. Well deserved for his moving dialog that connected with the audience, especially you. You decided to wait for him afterward to see if you could meet him. You want to personally tell him that his show was wonderful and inspiring. Sure enough, he came out and was greeting everyone who was there waiting with you. You were the last person he greeted. As he looked at you with his beautiful green eyes, you almost forgot what you wanted to tell him, but thankfully, you remembered.
His smile was beautiful, and he said he appreciated your kind words. Since you were the last person there, you got to talking. You both realized you have a lot in common. Before you knew it, 30 minutes had passed. He asked you what the rest of your plans were for the night. You were shocked and excited as you told him you were planning to just head back to your cousin's house. He mentioned that he often goes to that tavern after his show and he was wondering if you would like to join him for a drink. Your eyes lit up, and you smiled as you accepted his invitation. By this time, you felt more comfortable to be yourself. His energy was kind and comforting. He smiled back and said, "great". You both started to walk together towards the tavern. It wasn't very far from the theater. The bouncer at the door greeted him with a nod as you both walked into the tavern. It was dark with neon lights and had a fun atmosphere with lots to look at. The music was eclectic but not too loud. You were able to hear each other speak. You followed him to a booth at the corner that had a "reserved" sign on it. It was his usual table, apparently. You were deep in conversation by the time the server brought your beers. You enjoyed a good amber ale every now and then.
The evening seemed to fly by. You shared pub food and enjoyed several pints together. By the time you both left the tavern and went back up to street level, you noticed that it was drizzling. You both smiled as you both made haste back to the theater and eventually reached the theater's awning. Both of your hair were wet and you both couldn't stop laughing. You felt a connection with him and unbeknownst to you, he felt the same about you. This was an unexpected turn of events for you. You wished you could spend all night with him walking around the city, but you realized it was late and that you're going to miss the last train. He offered to share a taxi ride back. He insisted after you told him that you didn't want to trouble him since its out of the way. You eventually accepted when he gave you the cutest pouty look. You were happy you did because you continued to hit it off during the ride. You eventually made plans for a date and exchanged information. When you arrived at your cousin's home, he asked the cab to wait as he got out with you.
He wanted to give you one last hug for the night. It was a cozy hug and you kept that warm sensation as in your mind as you slept that night. The next morning, you told your cousin everything during coffee. She was so excited for you. You couldn't believe it yourself, but it was really happening.
The day your first date arrived. You spent the afternoon in The Village. You had lunch in a bistro that was also an art gallery, and then you strolled the streets with coffee and entered quaint bookstores and gift shops. You stopped at a vintage record store because you both loved music, and he bought you a vintage Bob Dylan album that you were looking for and randomly found together as you were browsing the crates It will be a memento of your first date together.
That evening, you found yourselves walking along the Hoboken waterfront during golden hour. You had your first kiss as all the buildings of Manhattan were glittering in the setting sun. Time stood still for the both of you. It was as if you entered a portal together, one where you were both transformed into who you're meant to be.
From that time on, you spent all your free time together. You traveled, went to shows, and supported each other's goals. On the night of your 1st anniversary of dating, you had dinner on the rooftop of his loft in Soho. A gramophone was playing the Bob Dylan record you bought together on your first date. He gave you a key to his apartment as you were both gazing at the city lights. You were speechless and tears started to flow down your cheeks. He gently brushed it away and kissed the area where the teardrop had been. That night, you held each-other until the morning sun caressed the waves of your bodies. The gentle warmth of it was like a manifestation of your love bond. From that moment on, you were the realization of his dreams that he told the audience a year ago. An invisible path that led both of you to the same destination culminating in a reunion of your ancient cosmic love bond. 💫
