1893 Colombian Exposition Intrigue

He was telling you about the time he met Nikola Tesla and George Westinghouse at the patent office. He had a patent of his own and will contribute his designs at the World's Colombian Exposition in Chicago. The year was 1893. He had taken an interest in you, and you accepted.
He was an established scientist and philosopher. You were impressed about his accomplishments since he was so young. His intelligence made you blush, the good way. He was interesting in the way he wasn't boring despite his background. He knew how to have fun, and while you were enjoying a bottle of imported absinthe together, he told you his plans while he lit the sugar cube on fire, about how he will collaborate with both Tesla and Westinghouse!
You were intrigued. He said, "all in due time, my darling! All in due time!" He then stood up and asked you if you wanted to dance. The next morning, you saw him standing in front of the window of your apartment in his pj pants and no shirt. His soft curls catching the morning sun. You were laying in bed, smiling as you admired the perfect look of him. He turned to you, and excitedly said, "today is the day", as he made his way back to you for another cuddle session. After a long kiss that you wished would never end, he said that he needed to get ready to go check on the final setup of his exhibit. He said he'll send a carriage for you to come when everything is ready.--The carriage arrived just as you finished your lunch. You were ready to go to the fair. When you arrived, you were mesmerized by all the glorious structures and the Romanesque aesthetics of the area.
One of his attendants met you and guided you to where his pavilion was. He looked up from his device as you arrived and then he approached you with a big smile and gave you a hug and a kiss.
He said, "welcome! Prepare to be amazed!" Your eyes lit up with excitement! Shortly after, he introduced you to both Tesla and Westinghouse as they strolled in together. After some time had passed and it was dusk, the presentation began. First was the innovation of the electric lighting of the fair, designed by both Tesla and Westinghouse. The crowd cheered. You were amazed at the illuminated buildings surrounding you. It felt surreal. You were mesmerized. He held you in that golden glow, kissed your cheek, then whispered that he's up next.
As you both strolled to his pavilion,
you noticed the water catching the
twinkling of the new lights. You said
that the water looked like you were
looking into space. He smiled as he
heard that and said, "I'm glad you said
that, because what I'm about to show
you is not too far from it." You turned
to look at him, as he was looking
ahead and smiling. He turned to you
and said, "with my invention, your eyes
are going to pop out of their sockets!"
You laughed when he said that. He
then said, "You'll see." Just then, you
had entered the pavilion.
Many people were already there. You walked up to the stage together. He went up the steps as you stayed in the audience. There was a linen tarp over something bulky on the stage platform. He gave an introduction speech on travel, physics of speed and distance as well as a side note on metaphysics. He asked the attendants to shut off the lights, except a few on the stage. Once they did, he unveiled his invention. You heard an audible gasp from the audience. In front of
you was what looked like a mirror, only it wasn't your reflection or the surroundings, but of another place! You thought it was a framed painting, except the image was moving! You then understood why he said that you're going to be amazed! Once the crowd simmered down, he continued his presentation. He said that we were looking at another part of the world in real time. He then explained that the view was of an ancient temple in India. The sun was rising just beyond the sikhara. You were amazed. You had never seen anything more beautiful.
When the presentation was over and the device was shut off, he looked at you as he finished talking to some of the last few people that lingered there. When he finally finished for the evening, he was with you for the rest of the evening. You couldn't stop talking about how amazing his invention was. He enjoyed your reaction and as you strolled around the grounds, you both talked about your future and the future of his invention.
You asked him how it worked. You couldn't really comprehend the technical aspects of it. However, one part you could grasp was that he had a duplicate device in India that was being controlled by one of his
associates. He explained that if things
go well, this device will be placed all
over the world in prominent locations.
They can eventually be in everyone's
home, where one wouldn't need to write letters anymore, but could speak face to face, as if they were in the same room! You felt amazed every moment he said something tonight. You were starting to get overwhelmed. He sensed that in you. He then suggested that perhaps the rest of the conversation could be revisited
another time. As you approached a
bistro selling pastries and tea, you both
decided to end the night there until it
was time to meet the carriage to take
you both back home. In the meantime,
you both enjoyed the French pastries.
After some months had passed since
the fair, he had been interviewed as
well as invited to many dinners and
meetings. He even spent some time
with Nikola Tesla since they had so
much in common.
Eventually, he got funding and a contract to start building the device. Unfortunately, before he could begin, his warehouse was riddled with break-ins, and eventually, there was a fire. You accompanied him as he went to his warehouse. When he arrived, there was nothing left except for some charred lumber, scattered papers, and broken glass and other components. He was silent, frozen, staring at the shambles of his life's work.
Your heart broke seeing him
like that. You were glad you were with
him. Unfortunately, there was nothing
left to salvage, except for a brass
paperweight that was gifted to him,
by you. It was in the shape of a globe,
engraved with the phrase, "strength
and endurance," which essentially
acknowledges Atlas the Titan.
It was actually very serendipitous to find that within the rubble. You noticed the color return to his face, where it was once
pale upon seeing the damage.
That night, you comforted him, and the next day, you decided to go stay by the seaside for a while to have a change of scenery for him and some needed rest and
relaxation.
He eventually decided he was done inventing. He didn't want to risk losing his work again, and more importantly, he wanted to build a life with you. You didn't want him to stop for you, but he insisted that he was done and that he preferred to write books, even if no one read them. He said he wasn't sure what life would be like for him if that tragedy had never happened. He had a chance to gain
deeper wisdom since that event, and
after returning from India, where he
went to retrieve the other device which
he had used in his presentation many
years ago at the world's fair in Chicago.
Without his papers or the companion
device, this item just became useless,
other than being some unusual room
accent. He brought home a copy of the
Mahabharata and carefully translated
it into English. This became his new
endeavor for himself.
In the process, he enlightened you. One notable quote, which was uttered by Krishna, he read to you in lantern light as you both sat on the porch of your seaside villa. He read,

"You should not sorrow for that which was bound to happen. Those
who are wise do not feel sorry over
fate. Even with the greatest wisdom,
that which is ordained will happen.
No one can transgress the path that
has been laid down. Time brings
existence and non-existence, pleasure,
and pain. Time creates all elements, and time destroys all beings. Time
burns all subjects, and it is time that
extinguishes the fire. Time alone is
awake when everything is asleep. Time
cannot be conquered. Time walks in
all elements, pervasive and impartial.
Knowing that everything, past, present
and future, is created by time, it is
not appropriate that you should be
consumed by grief.

You got chills as it resonated exactly on the situations you both lived through in the past years. That book of translations, that was written in his handwriting, along with
the original Mahabharata was found
in the attic by your great great grandchildren within a large trunk. With it were old photos of you both on your wedding day, a photo taken at the
World's Fair and a photo of him holding their great grandfather when he was a baby.
The paperweight was also
in there as well as a few paintings you
did. Your great great grandchildren were
amazed at the find, and they cherished
them. They found a way to publish his
translations and it finally came to light that his technology was indeed stolen by some secret group looking for any sign of Nikola Tesla's work when they found his work instead, the stole it and burned the place down. They enhanced his tech to be mass produced, and some people got very rich off of it. Unfortunately, those profits were not gained by your descendants. However, there were some recognition by some groups of people who are trying to revive his name as the rightful inventor, but such as these things are, they take time. -- Going back to your lifetime, you spent all of your days together, and none of them were without love. The shift in life trajectory created a beautiful existence for you two despite the fact that he lost his work. It wasn't meant to be, for if it didn't happen, then you both would be deprived of what blossomed between you in this time that you now had. Every night before sleeping, he'd turn to face you in bed, gaze into your eyes, and tell you that he loves you before he kisses you.
His kisses were the best way to end the day and throughout the night you slept in his arms dreaming about dancing together among the lights of the many galaxies that surrounded you. You created another pocket of love in this vast existence of industrial revolution. His situation was meant to happen like this because it created an entirely new timeline for the future of the family you will create together. A love invention.♡
